Non Destructive Test
In Situ Metallography was applied as a non-destructive method to analyze the microstructure of metallic equipment in order to assess the metallurgical integrity of equipment in major plants, refineries and process industries. Example of metallic equipment such as boiler, furnace, flare, piping and vessel.
This assessment is use when examining large components that cannot be easily moved or destructive sample preparation is difficult or not permissible. Replica testing allows for quick onsite evaluation of a component’s metallurgical and heat treatment condition and assists investigators when carrying out a remaining life assessment study or a failure analysis project. This method is also important to identify surface micro cracks that sometimes cannot be detected by other NDE technique.
The material such as low alloy, stainless steel and carbon steel are use in equipment at oil and gas industry. These materials expose to the environment and strong influence to the mechanical and corrosion property of materials that can cause change in the microstructure. Therefore, the need of checking microstructural state of the industrial materials become essential.
